Strange Days

Today I learned a new word: "pititis", which basically means inflammation of the pits. Don't ask any questions....just enjoy the pititiness of the word.

Weird book title of the day: "Saliva as a diagnostic fluid" ....a whole 300+ pages of it too. Someone definitely has too much time on their hands.

Also weird....in my parents' common bathroom, there sits a variety of reading material. You have your usual standard magazine issues. And THEN....on top, two romance novels (presumably my mom's) and underneath that is the original copy of my dad's thesis, for partial fulfillment of this PhD., entitled "Electrophysiological and functional studies of the lateral habenular nucleus" (1975). ?!?!!? Someone must have been taking a huge dump to want to read that one.

"Stupid people are stupid"

A couple of interesting things happened today.

1. Bruce Tovee lecture: U of T vs. MAC showdown.
Today's Tovee was on medical ethics and professionalism with Dr. H. He was wearing a cut off sleeve shirt, probably so he wouldn't have his usual pit stains. His lecture was getting pretty long and he asked a lot of controversial questions, so the class was getting a little rowdy. At around 7:30pm, this asian girl from MAC puts up her hand. When she is called upon, she turns around to the class and yells something about if you want to socialize then GET OUT, cause it's VERY DISTRACTING, and furthermore, it's RUDE so....GET OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She was practically screaming. So then, CM, who is sitting onthe other side of the class says, "Is that a joke?" And she says, "No." And then he replies with. "Yeah. It's a joke." ...so then the girl said, "Let's take this outside." hahahaha Tiny little asian girl. I think she was serious too.

Dr. H was asking the class what an example of an incorrect physical exam was, and someone said, "Sexually assaulting a patient?" And he said, "Well, if you do it incorrectly."

2. Impromptu Barenaked Ladies concert
When I got home from Tovee, my friend called me with free tickets to some Bell 125th anniversary party, where barenaked ladies were just starting to go on stage. So I went down to the ACC to meet up with him and sat in the 9th row.

3. Impromptu request for sex
On my way down to the ACC, I passed these two guys around my age. One of them said hi to me and i said hi back. He asked me how I was and I said good. Then he asked what I was up to. I told him I was going to a concert. Then he said wanna have sex with me? And I said no. Weirdos.

"Drunk people are stupid"

Yes, I know that this is a general comment that probably doesn't apply to all of those who prefer to indulge in alcohol once in a while....but really, some people just do stupid things when they're drunk, like try to be strong and carry me against my will, only to stumble horrendously and proceed to drop me on the ground. It hurts. Maybe I'm getting heavy....

Tonight was my grad formal, and it was nice to get dressed up and see classmates, but if you really think about it, it's just seeing the same old people, only they are intoxicated, slightly gropy, and slightly stupid.

I feel much better after my trip to the Bahamas...now on with real life. It was a great trip, one that I actually enjoyed for a change. Saw lots of interesting patients and learned how SLOW things are down there. I also learned how rude people can be. But then again, rude people are everywhere. (By the way, don't EVER go to McDonalds in Nassau). I came back with a nice tan and a nice souvenir ring, which someone proceeded to steal from me tonight :(..... This is why I don't wear jewelery.

I have to put my life in order over the next few weeks. Should start studying too.
