The weekend bum

This past weekend all I did was lay around, sleep, watch TV and movies, and eat/pee occasionally. I did manage to step out twice to go shopping (I mean, can't live WITHOUT it!). I felt so blah. Didn't even feel like going out for Halloween. I could hear lots of happy people outside from my window, but just didn't have the energy to leave the house. The three movies I rented were:

1. The United States of Leland (C+)
2. Mona Lisa Smile (B)
3. School of Rock (A)

The first movie was weird. I only rented it because it was a film festival movie and I heard that Ryan Gosling had a good performance. After watching it, I thought I could have done just as well staring blankly into space and not really talking.

The second movie I only rented because I had a coupon for free 7-day rental. Hear it was contrived and not worth watching, but it was actually pretty good. Made a statement, even though it was obvious. The girls kept trying to talk in these pseudo proper accents though and that was annoying.

The last movie I only rented because in order to get the second one for free I had to rent another one. Have seen this movie already at the film festival. Loved it! Probably won't watch it...maybe in a couple of days.

I guess I must go back to working on my carms application. Since it's due on Wednesday....and it is rather important for my career.

Ciao

Ass backwards

Today was a completely off day. It all started when I was late for work/school. It is really frustrating when you can't control the amount of time it takes to get to work. For instance, taking the subway. You can't make the subway go any faster. Nor can you push people out of the way so that you can run to the next subway, only to wait 3 minutes for the doors to close. And as much as I'd like to, I can't make myself wake up any earlier. I also have this weird belief that I can do things early in the morning and still make it into work on time. Good thing my supervisor was late too (PHEW!). I basically have decided that sucking up is totally useless. My supervisor keeps telling me that I can come in late, not come if I'm feeling ill, or go home early, and it will not affect my evaluation whatsoever. At first, I thought, ok she's cool. But then I realized that it could go either way. Now I think she just doesn't care. No matter how hard I work, it will not affect my evaluation whatsoever.

After a busy day at work, which included taking pictures of a dead baby (sorry), I rushed home at the mercy of the subway, to head to the post office to get my OSAP. Fortunately, I got there with 15 minutes to spare. As I was filling out the form, I realized that I didn't bring a void cheque, nor did I have any financial information on me. Hence, a wasted trip. I had forgotten to go to the bank first. On my way home, I decided to treat myself to a nice unhealthy McDonalds dinner. I got a little excited when I remembered that it's Monopoly time so I bought a McFlurry to get the game pieces. As soon as I got home, I plopped on the bed to open my mail....and....an hour later, woke up to my roommate looking at me from the door, half on and half off my bed. Funny, since she's never home. Anyways...my McFlurry had melted and in my daze, I threw it out without taking the game pieces. Hence, another waste.

So now I am writing about my day, and no one will read it...but that's okay, because I enjoy talking to myself.

Welcome to my office

Today I received my Samsung Multifunction printer. It's so exciting. It prints, scans, and copies. I feel like I'm running a small business or something. Except that it would be a nonprofit business, cause I am totally not making any money. Forgot to get a printer cable - good thing my old one fits. I am going to be so organized now! I can't believe it takes me $350 to get myself organized. Maybe I should pay someone $350 to clean my room. I've been meaning to unpack the rest of my stuff since I moved in. It's been about 3 months now....I guess it's easier for when I have to move out if everything is already in boxes.

So Many Rules

So I'm filling out these stupid applications to get into residency, stressing out the maximum that I'm not going to get in, even though I'm applying to family medicine - which is apparently the "specialty" that no one wants. I have a complex about that...although I enjoy family medicine (well at least 45% of it), I always wonder if I could be something else. Well, I know I could, but that would mean I would have had to try a little harder in school over the last 3 years. Totally my fault, but I believe that my subconscious was making me do that for a reason.

Oh my god, I totally went tangential there. So I'm doing this application and one program requires a photocopy of a passport. I don't know why, since I'm sure they would have cleared that up when I got into medical school. I was taking these passport sized pictures to send in for my application (so they know how hot I am!) and the woman said, "Don't smile! You can't smile in passport photos". I said why? I don't want these program directors to look at my straightface and think, this girl is miserable looking, and chuck my application away. So I told her that these pictures weren't for a passport. Turned out bad anyways. I look half dead. But the real point of my story is...I just looked in my passport and I am smiling in my picture...

The silver lining...

I have a sweet deal. When I first rented out this apartment I thought I was getting ripped off. I still am, but the thing that makes it better is the fact that my roommate, who subletted out the solarium, pays me rent and is NEVER home. I swear she is home maybe in the morning? At lunch for sure because I see washed dishes on the counter. But by the time I come home she's gone. And she doesn't sleep here either. Not here on weekends....life is sweet. I essentially live alone. And she cleans up too!! I love it! Now I know that this will eventually come around to bite me in the ass, but I'll take it while I can.

This is your captain speaking

Ok I just have to get one thing off my chest. I really hate it when people can't spell. I mean, complex words, unused terms, fine....but in people who are university educated, they should know the difference between "your" and "you're". I'm not trying to be mean, and really it's okay if you can't spell....it just bothers me. Actually, what REALLY bothers me is people who misspell words on purpose. And do those WoRdS liKe ThiS
*shudder*. Misspelling words AND doing the semi-capital thing....when I read things written like that, it makes me feel like I'm the one that's dyslexic.

Oh, and please feel free to point out every spelling mistake that I ever make, just to spite me.
(They are not spelling mistakes I swear! Just poor typing!)

P.S. poe-tay-toe

I don't like talking about myself

So, I have to send in a picture of myself as part of my application for residency programs. This is so program directors can see what I look like before I interview there (if I indeed get one). On my way home today I stopped by some photo shop to get some passport photos taken. I should write an entire blog on how expensive those buggers are. So I got 4 pictures for $20, because who knows when I will need a passport photo. Maybe I can give one out to the hot guy on the street. Oh wait....this is the reason for writing the post in the first place. Why is it that every time I go to take passport photos I look half dead? Is it the white background? Or my pseudo smile (why can't you smile in your passport photo?)...it doesn't even look like me. Seriously debating taking some more....but who will I give these ones to? They were too expensive to throw in the garbage. Oh the dilemma!! P.S. NO I will not post them on here

So, I am rewriting my first posting, after having gone through a mini-purge. I honestly don't remember when I deleted my previous blogs. Oh well. Let's start over. Hello....
.......
Guess I'm not so chatty tonight. I think I must be the most indecisive person in the world. I can't decide whether or not to keep typing or to scrap the blog and start all over again. I've been sitting here for the last 5 minutes deciding what to do. So, why not write about it? Ok let's see....what was the last book I read? Bridget Jones Diary. v.good. Am going to go out and buy the sequel. Which reminds me - Have hit triple digits today, although, I was wearing my shoes on the scale. Yikes....haven't been that heavy in 4 years. Not that it's particularly heavy or anything...just reminds me that I've been eating too much crap lately. My pants are starting to get tight too...guess I'll have to just buy new ones. What a great excuse to buy new clothes - getting fat! (see Shopping blog)
