Coming soon, I promise!!!

It's a bird....It's a plane....

Oh, it's just some random celebrity in a black tinted SUV that everyone's shouting out at.

"Rachel! Rachel!" (I just realized that this was probably Rachel Bilson and not Rachel Weisz)

"Kate will you please sign my Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Poster??"

"That was Sean Penn!"

Ahh....fun to be celebrity watching during the Toronto Film Festival, and even more fun when it just happens upon you that you see someone famous. And in about 15 seconds, they're gone and the fun is over.

I've seen 3 film festival movies so far and all pretty good. A couple of movies to watch out for when they come into wide release in the fall:

Stranger than Fiction - Will Ferrell, Dustin Hoffman, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Emma Thompson, Queen Latifah
(edited) "Harold Crick (Will Ferrell) is a solitary type with very, very regular habits. The methodical IRS auditor knows where he will be and what he will be doing down to the last second of every minute of every hour. Then one fine day, Harold's watch - governor of everything he does - breaks. Then he starts hearing a voice in his head. Speaking with a British accent, this female voice seems to be narrating every moment and action of Harold's life, and no one else can hear it. When she mentions Harold's imminent death, he knows it's time to seek professional help. Dr. Jules Hilbert (Dustin Hoffman) is a literary theorist who suggests Harold should wrest control of his "story" back from the voice - and perhaps re-write it as a comedy. This novel notion prompts Harold to re-evaluate his professional relationship with Ana Pascal (Maggie Gyllenhaal), a free-spirited baker who does not support all aspects of U.S. tax law - or Harold, at first. Meanwhile, Kay Eiffel (Emma Thompson), a once well-known novelist with a troublesome case of writer's block, needs an ending for her book about a character named Harold Crick. She has no idea that Harold is a real person, or that he is aware she has decided to kill him off. To save himself, the desperate Harold must breach the reclusive author's main line of defense: her hard-charging assistant, Penny (Queen Latifah). "

Babel - Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, Gael García Bernal, Kôji Yakusho, Rinko Kikuchi, Adriana Barraza
"American couple Susan (Cate Blanchett) and Richard (Brad Pitt) travel to Morocco on vacation, where catastrophe stalks their already troubled relationship. As their tour bus passes through a mountain village, a shot rings out and a stranger's decision to hand his sons a rifle creates an international incident. Meanwhile, in California, the couple's two children are in the care of Amelia (Adriana Barraza), their nanny. When she has to drive to Mexico with her nephew, Santiago (Gael García Bernal), for her son's wedding, Amelia illegally brings her young charges with her. And in Tokyo, a widowed father (Kôji Yakusho) struggles to reach his deaf-mute teenaged daughter, Chieko (Rinko Kikuchi), as she swings through emotional and sexual extremes." This one was amazing.

On another note....a couple of stupid things I've directly or indirectly done this weekend: My sister was desperately trying to take a picture of Kate Winslet on her camera phone. One second she was standing beside me and the next she was pushing her way to the front of the crowd to see whoever it was that people were standing around for. Well....she went to snap the picture and.....not enough memory to take the picture!!! Oops...that was me, taking too many pictures with her phone and changing the picture size. By the time she had fixed it Kate was out of sight. So yeah, no pictures to post.

Last but not least....my sister and I went bra shopping the other day, and I felt like I needed to get the matching underwear to make it worth my while...of course, why spend money when you can spend MORE money! I was cutting the tags off to throw them in the wash and...me, cutting off tags in the dim light, cut a hole right into the fabric! Sheesh.

Life is full of surprises

I have just settled into my temporary home in Waterloo and finally met my landlords. They are a lovely retired Scottish couple. They invited me upstairs for tea and custard with rhubarb and some other ingredient that I can't spell. Kind of weird, but they're nice folk. Since moving here I've had major issues with my digestive system. Oh the heartburn! I was told not to lounge around in my underwear because they like to come downstairs unannounced. Well, I was wearing clothes, but um...no bra. Good thing I had a sweater to put on. I couldn't just say, "Wait a minute, let me just put on a bra".

The older gentleman found out that I'm going to the Toronto Film Festival and told me that he shares my passion for movies. Then I asked him if he liked Braveheart (you know, being Scottish and all) and he kind of gave me this look of "girl, you crazy?". Turns out he's more into the foreign sophisticated films and Shakespeare. He told me that I could borrow any movie to watch. So I'm going through his movies and nestled among "Henry V", "Out of Africa", and "Midsummer Night's Dream" there are titles like "Maid in Manhattan", "Love Actually", and "Family Guy: Seasons 1 and 2". I'll be sneaking those away when they're not looking (ok, not Maid in Manhattan).

Tomorrow I'm off to Toronto to celebrity watch.

In retrospect

Tonight I drove to Waterloo to settle into my temporary basement apartment. My two month placement starts tomorrow and I'm not looking forward to paying $7/day in parking (no way around it they say. BAH!). But thank god I'm stealing someone's wireless internet!! Not totally isolated!!

I've been hearing all this news about the Crikey man getting shot in the heart by a sting ray. And now I'm just thinking back to when I passed that huge Canadian flag on the 401, which was at half mast. Please tell me that it was not because of the crocodile hunter.

**edit** Yes I know the flag was at half mast for the soldier killed in afghanistan. Didn't mean to seem ignorant or callous.

I have a problem

And that problem is an obsession with buying shoes. Doesn't matter how impractical or un-needed they are. I just have to have them. Even if I only wear them a few times. I think I justify buying a pair of shoes if they will carry me through one big event or if I will wear them casually at least 5 times. I think in the last 2 months I have bought 5 pairs of shoes. Now, if these were $20 shoes that would be fine...but seems these days I'm spending a good chunk of money of these tootsies. But, all in the name of fashion right?

Maybe I'm just taking my frustration out on buying things because I have been babysitting a cat from hell this past week. She is only allowed upstairs and she just goes crazy, jumping up walls and trotting all over my boobs when I'm sleeping. She wakes me up every morning around 5 am with licks to my nose and chin, and nibbles (okay BITES HARD) on my ear. One morning she was licking my mouth and I thought aw, how cute..she's giving me a kiss...followed by aw crap, she was probably just licking her bum.
